Tadcaster gears up for the Tour!

 Tour de Yorkshire

It’s not long now until the eyes of the world will be on Tadcaster – for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. The town will host the start of the one-day women’s race and the second stage of the men’s race on Saturday 29 April.

The riders will start by crossing over the newly re-opened bridge, then making a loop of the town centre before heading out towards Boston Spa and Wetherby on their way to Harrogate. Both the men’s and women’s races follow the same route.

Plans are being developed to hold a festival in the town to help celebrate the Tour. The race is broadcast around the world, and it’s a unique opportunity to show off the town and the local area.

Selby District Council funded Tadcaster’s involvement in the race, as part of on-going efforts to support the town after the floods of December 2015. With the bridge closed throughout last year, traders and residents have had a very difficult time. It’s hoped the Tour will help to bring visitors to the town and show the world that Tadcaster is very much open for business.

Selby District Council also has a wealth of information about the race, and about how community groups and businesses can make the most of the opportunity, on its website – www.selby.gov.uk. You can find out more about the race online, via www.letouryorkshire.com.

Spectrum Youth Group

Spectrum Youth Group opened its doors for the first time on Monday 16th March 2015 at Manor Farm Youth Centre in Tadcaster.  Spectrum aims to provide social opportunities for young adults with additional needs -  young people with learning disabilities, autism, or perhaps a physical challenge, who spend countless evenings isolated in their room, without access to a safe social setting.
